UNITS OF COMPUTER- The study of
computer involves the study of 2 specific units
1-Hardware
2-Software.
DEFINATION OF HARDWARE-The physical components of computer like
-display,fan,light,key board etc are called hardware.These are function units
of computer hardware(mainly)-1-Input,2-CPU(Central Processing Unit),3-output.

1-input hardware/device-Input means
whatever information we put in computer to process.In computing ,an input
device is a piece of equipment used to provide data to computer the popular
input device-keyboard,mouse, scanner,digital camera and punced card
A-Punced card-It is not currently used
.It is a paper card with standard dimension of 19.3cm*9.5cm*0.018cm.It is divided into 12
rows,numbered as 0-9,11 and 8 columns.
This is punched card.
B- Key board -Key board is most
commonly used input device.
Types of key -a.Alfabetic key(A-Z)
b.Numeric key(1-9)
c.special character key(!,@#)
d.function keys(f1-f12)
e.special function (ALT,CTRL)
THE REAL NOTES:
SPECIAL FUNCTION KEYS- 1.ENTER KEY-
The enter key is very important key .If we are giving a command ,it does
not get execute until we press the enter key.It is also known as the return
key.
2.Esc key- It is called the escaoe key .By
pressing the key we can get out of the program.
3.ALT,CTRL key -There are 2 set of key in the keyboard
marked as ALT,CTRL.these keys are used in combination with other keys to
execute special command in computer called shortcut .
4.SHIFT-A shift key is one of the modifier ,used
to type capital letters and other alternate the upper character(!@#$%^)
5. CAPS-The caps lock key when pressed once
will cause all the alphabets to be entered in upper case.
6.BACKSPACE-On pressing the key ,the alphabets
,numbers ,or symbols which is positioned to the immediate left of the blinking
cursor get erased.
7.ARROW KEY – Arrow key helps us to move around in documents and make essential
changes .we have 4 arrow keys to move
the cursor .
8. HOME KEY- to move the cursor to begging of
the point.
9.END KEY-opposite of home key.
10.DEL key – It can erase the letter under
which the cursor is located.
11.Spacebar – By pressing the key cursor moves
one column at a time.
12.TAB key-the cursor moves to the next tab
stop.
